Review: Record Breakers

Kids love obscure facts and this is a book that will give them a neverending supply of unusual records that they can and will repeat to you (and everyone within listening distance) over and over again.

This is a great approach to a fact book, covering records across everything to do with the earth, people, engineering, animals and even space. Kids will learn about the fastest, longest, highest, oldest, loudest, biggest and most valuable of everything they can think of!

The bibliophiles amongst you will enjoy finding out the most translated author, most expensive book, best-selling fiction book and best-selling author. There are also records about films, adventurers, survivors and countries.

What about planet earth? Would you like to know the hottest, wettest, flattest, highest and deepest places on the planet? What about where the most violent volcanoes and strongest tornedos have occurred?

Interested in water? Did you know the Nile is the longest River, the tallest waterfall in the world is actually underwater and Lake Baikal is the deepest lake in the world?

There’s a whole section on sporting records from Olympic achievers to masters of motorsport and amazing athletes. You can also discover the great feats of mountain climbers and deep-sea divers.

The engineering section takes you through a history of inventions in the development of transport, moving on to the best-selling, most powerful, smallest and longest cars, through to the land speed record, railway technology and most expensive yacht!

The book also covers largest machines, wonder walls and breathtaking bridges, not to mention the world’s tallest buildings, longest tunnels and heaviest vehicles.

As with all of DK’s wonderful and informative fact books, this one is well laid out with fantastic visuals. The images are interesting and intriguing and capture kids' imagination to make them want to read the surrounding text. The stunning photographs combined with clever graphic design really add to the appeal. This is another great book from DK, perfect for all the fact-loving kids out there.
