Review: The Prison Healer

With the words Don’t let her die – we are coming ringing in her ears means the rescue mission Kiva has been hoping for is no longer a dream, but a promise.

Seventeen year old Kiva Meridan has been fighting for survival and freedom for the last 10 years as the prison healer in Zalindov. The notorious death prison Zalindov is not known for its survival rate which is not helped by an incurable plague sweeping the prison.

When Tilda the Rebel Queen is captured – Kiva’s job is to keep her alive to face the Trial of Ordeal. But the Queen is terminally ill and will die during the trial unless Kiva can keep her alive.

The Trial of Ordeal is saved for the most dangerous of criminals. The series of elemental challenges incorporate air, fire, water and earth – no one has ever survived.

With the message from her family Kiva does the unthinkable – she volunteers to go in place of the queen. If she succeeds, both the Queen and her will go free.

Complications arise after discovering a fellow inmate has feelings for her, then there is a prison rebellion being planned and Kiva ends up being locked in the abyss.

Will Kiva survive? Will she gain her freedom and see her family or is this the beginning of the end?

Australian author Lynette Noni has based her fictional Zalindov on Fremantle Prison in Western Australia. The atmosphere of the prison together with magic, romance and treachery lurking around every corner will keep readers enthralled in this page turning fantasy thriller. Cannot wait for the next instalment in this trilogy.
