Evie P arrives on a Tuesday, floaty, and full of surprise.
She brings with her a glow of happiness, an aura of mystery, an uncompromising belief in herself, and a Storm Glass Weather Predictor.
Lily is immediately mesmerised by her and hopes Evie P will be her friend.
Evie P thrills the class with the statement that she has arrived in an airship, and this is her first time in a classroom, having been sky schooled by her Air-xplorer parents.
She loves words and uses them freely to entertain with stories told with unquenchable enthusiasm, and which for her classmates, create new ways of looking at the world.
When the Storm Glass Weather Predictor, disappears from The Lost and Rarely Found Cupboard, a new adventure pours from her as they give
chase after Rat Hector, to retrieve the glass with a map in its base. Will they find it?
All the characters are well-crafted – interesting and unique.
Lily does not walk in Evie P’s shadow but is her equal in intelligence and exuberance, therefore is also a leading character.
Lily experiences many firsts in Evie P’s company.
Tom is the Keeper of the Class Diary who hopes to bury it in a time capsule.
Gretchen is a self-appointed Class Fib Monitor, having inherited from her accountant father, the ability to recognise a fib when she hears one.
Evie P and Me is a story full of light and joy that will be enjoyed by adults as much as by children.
This is a book fueled by imagination and an incredible use of language through the dialogues. It is clever, engaging and a one-sit read full of optimism, wise words with a philosophical bent.
The impressive illustrations by Andrew Joyner, Petra James’ outstanding, inspiring prose, and the design of the text across the pages, are bound together perfectly, each enhancing the other.
It is a standout! I loved it!
