Review: The Book no one Wants to Read

Who wants to read a book? Books are boring. They’re a waste of time. We only read because our parents and teachers make us, right?

Well, I agree with this 100% (wink, wink), but if you have to read a book. If you absolutely HAVE to pick up a book and read it, then I promise, this is the one you want!

The Book no one Wants to Read is crazy fun!

It looks like it's a chunky size, but that’s just to fool your parents into thinking you’ve read a chunky book. Inside, you won’t find more than 10 words per page, and each is seriously entertaining.

Review: This is Not a Book!

Do you know what a book is? Our young protagonist does, and she’s convinced this is absolutely not a book.

She knows because books have characters and she’s not a character. She’s real!

Plus, books have events that happen and nothing is happening, except…

Review: Vognox the Viking and the Island of Skeletons

Now here’s a different kind of junior fiction novel!

Vognox is a Viking, but he doesn’t like adventures and has no intention of going on one.

Unfortunately for Vognox, his existence is controlled by the Awful Awfa, whose giant hand and pencil can draw him into the adventures he wants to avoid.

When the Awful Awfa’s pencil gets taken by a dragon, he tells Vognox he won't be able to draw him at all if he doesn’t get it back, forcing Vognox on an adventure to retrieve it.

Review: This Book Can Read Your Mind

I’ve been waiting for this day. I knew it would come. I have to admit I thought it would be some kind of robot or machine or super human, but there is now a book that can read your mind!

This Book can Read Your Mind is a fun and funny picture book that can literally read your mind.

You have to be careful because whatever you are thinking will appear on the page, and the book knows!

Review: Not Just a Book

An exploration of wonder and imagination, Not Just a Book is a super fun story about all the things a book can do.

Shooing away bears, catching fairies, keeping wasps out of your drink, making toy train tunnels, a book can be used for almost anything.

But…

A book also has power, and this delightful picture book explores this idea by looking at all the ways a book can impact your life.

Like making you laugh and cry, and staying with you in your mind as you grow.

Review: This is a Book! (No Wifi Needed)

This is a Book! (No Wifi Needed) is a fun story about a little girl’s discovery that her book is a book and not in fact an iPad.

There is no ‘on’ button. There is no volume control. It’s not linked or synced and you have to actually turn the pages.

But…

Everyone else in the little girl’s family seems to enjoy books, and she soon discovers there are some very cool things about them.

Like getting to read by torchlight under a blanket and those amazing places you can go with THOUSANDS of books available to explore (wink wink).

Review: The Scared Book

What do you think a book might feel about the characters that inhabit it?

This highly engaging and interactive picture book explores this very idea, as the book itself proclaims it cannot continue with the story once it discovers it’s all about monsters.

The Scared Book is so scared of the monsters roaming its pages, it asks the reader to help it shoo them off. You’ll have to scratch, rub, shake and flick the monsters away so The Scared Book can get on with the story.

Review: A Week without Tuesday (A Tuesday McGillycuddy Adventure #2)

Our intrepid literary adventurer Tuesday McGillycuddy returns in the sequel to the wonderful Finding Serendipity.

After her adventures following her mother, author Serendipity Jones, into the magical land of story, Tuesday is now working on her own manuscript. Everything seems to be back to normal until strange things start happening to authors all over the world. They are disappearing and then returning in unexpected places, injured and disoriented.

Tuesday’s parents ban her from writing to protect her, but Vivienne Small, the heroine of the books written by Serendipity, sends out a call for help and Tuesday and her dog Baxterr have to respond. Can Tuesday, Vivienne and Baxterr discover what is going wrong and fix the problem before the magical world, and all the stories it contains, is destroyed?

Review: Dog Loves Drawing

Dog Loves Drawing, written and illustrated by Louise Yates, is loads of doodling fun. Dog, who owns his own bookshop, is encouraged to embrace the world of drawing by his Aunt Dora. After setting up all of his art utensils, Dog is ready for a sketching adventure.

This metafictive book details Dog's journey as he himself becomes part of the story, along with his illustrations who take on a life of their own.

Review: Monsters Love Colors

First, allow me to preface this review by saying that you can purchase this book in Australia, but there is no version available which features Australian spelling. Please don't let that prevent you from giving this delightful book a chance!

Monsters Love Colors, written and illustrated by Mike Austin, is a lively and enjoyable picture book that teaches children about colours. It's somewhat reminiscent of Drew Daywalt's The Day the Crayons Quit with a little HervĂ© Tullet thrown in.
